Jende Reed Knives and Shapton Sharpening Stones
We're really excited to begin offering Jende Reed Knives.
These are the BMW of reed knives! The combined effort and
expertise that goes into every single knife is what sets
the Jende in a league of its own. Each knife is hand made
using traditional Asian knife-making techniques. Japanese
steel is first forged into shape, hollow ground, and then
hardened to Rockwell 62, making the edge on the blade very
strong, yet durable. Each blade is polished and hand sharpened
to an amazing #8000 or #15000 grit, ensuring a sharp, long-lasting,
consistent burr. Also, the Jende knife is perfectly weighted
so no pressure is required to remove cane.
The Knife Maintenance Kits offer a quick and easy
way to keep the edge sharp for a long time...making the use
of stones unnecessary even after making multiple reeds! We
ourselves have made many reeds without taking the knife to
a stone!!! What a time saver! The folding steel alone is worth
its weight in gold. Comes with zippered pouch, folding steel,
edge tester and complete illustrated instructions.
Although the edge lasts an AMAZINGLY long time, sharpening
is necessary eventually. The Shapton Professional Series
Ceramic Stones offer the highest level of sharpening
results we have ever seen! Nothing compares to these stones!
Each stone is stored in a plastic case that also serves
as a stone holder while sharpening. Only water is needed
to begin sharpening. No pre-soaking is necessary. Stones
store dry and are ready for use in seconds. They are available
in a variety of grits...we recommend starting with your
own current sharpening device (probably around #1500 grit)
then moving on to the Shapton #5000 grit stone. Finish the
Original Jende Knife with the #8000 grit stone, and the
15K Jende Knife with the #15000 grit stone, and you'll be
astounded with the results. Let the Jende/Shapton way of
reed making change your oboe life forever!
