Cane at OboeWorks!

We're pleased to present our expanded cane offerings at OboeWorks. We've re-worked our selections, and are sure you'll find just the right cane for you!!!

Not sure what kind of cane to try? The characteristics of cane are different to different people, but we have prepared a comparison to give you some idea of what might work best for you. Of course, don't take our word for it...the only way to know for sure is to try it for yourself!

Our Shop Processed Cane

We gouge our OboeWorks, Rigotti, and K.Ge English horn cane to .68-.70 mm in the center. We use a Gilbert -1 tip for shaping.

OboeWorks Cane: We encourage you to try OboeWorks cane. It's a medium French cane that has been a customer favorite since we opened our doors more than 11 years ago. It's firm yet not too hard, smooth, but not grainy.

Rigotti Cane: We're pleased to add Rigotti to our shop processed cane line up. It is a reliable French cane that one can often count on when nothing else seems to be working! Not too hard, and not too soft, many find it to be just right!!! Customer feedback has been terrific...give it a try!

K.Ge Cane: We're equally pleased to introduce K.Ge cane to our now extensive cane offerings! This is an excellent cane, grown in the Anhui province in China. The climate in Anhui is very similar to that of the cane-producing Var region in France, and it shows! K.Ge cane is very firm and resilient, smooth and silky to scrape. From tube to tube it is extraordinarily consistent. For years cane from China had a bad reputation...but things have changed! This cane is wonderful and we encourage you to give it a try.

Our Factory Processed Cane

We are now offering factory processed cane from OboeWorks. Just like it sounds, it is gouged and shaped at the factory where it is harvested. The gouge can be inconsistent and the shape is a mystery, but this cane can offer reed makers of all levels an excellent result.

Bormes cane has been popular in our shop for years. It's slightly harder than OboeWorks cane, but lighter than Rigotti and K.Ge. It is sold gouged & shaped from the Bormes factory in France. The gouge is pretty consistent, and the shape is neither very wide nor very narrow.

Rigotti factory processed cane joined our lineup 2 years ago, and has been very popular. You can't beat the price, making it a great cane for students. It's a nice light cane, without being too soft or mushy. The factory gouge is consistent and the shape, like Bormes, is neither very wide nor very narrow.

Victoria cane enjoys a following all its own. Of unknown origin, and despite being very inconsistently factory processed, it remains extraordinarily popular among our customers. It is the hardest cane we sell. The factory shape is neither very wide nor very narrow.

On a scale of hardness, beginning with the softest cane we sell...
Rigotti is medium soft to medium.
OboeWorks is medium.
Bormes is medium to medium hard.
K.Ge is medium hard to hard.
Victoria is hard.
